Fishing Report
12/30/2011
We are still catching bass on
the Susquehanna and Juniata rivers. Had 18 on Monday the biggest was 19.
9/19/2010
Fished 2
days about 8 hrs each day. Waded
and had 2 exceptional days. 60+ fish both days. The fishing was like it was
years ago. Lots of nice fish over 13 inches. Biggest
Saturday was 18 and the biggest Sunday was 17. Fish were eating baby bass,
perch, and Olive sculpin. Caught quite a few on charteruse
block head popper. Caught some on a foamy pete.
Again it was incredible how many rising fish through out the day. If this was a
trout stream it would boil with all the bugs on the river. All fish were
healthy and were fat as could be. The river is running very low 3.0 and is
easily waded right now.
6/5/2010
We had a great spring on the
river. Lots of quality bass both on the Juniata and Susquehanna Rivers.
The fish were hitting Clousers and Muppets on a type III full sinking line.
Slow and eddies was the key since the river was up. The river is now down to
wadeable levels for the first time this year. This weekend should be good.

The river has been fishing well,
lots of nice fish not the numbers of the 90’s but solid days. I had over
35 in about 8 hours of fishing the other day on the big river and over 40 on
the Juniata. It has been a lot of work with the
flyrod on the Susquehanna, type 3 sinking lines have
been the main stay. Colors that have been good are all white, olive and
chartreuse, chartreuse and white, and all black. Another way to fight this
current is use a floating line and do the hop. Another
excellent fly has been the Murdich Minnow.
That fly was excellent Sunday.

The river has been fishing pretty
fair. It has been a lot of work with the flyrod, type
3 sinking lines have been the main stay. Colors that have been good are Golden
Craw, Olive and Charteruse, crab, and gizzard shad. Another way to fight this
current is use a floating line and do the hop. HHF was
real good Saturday and produced some nice fish. The other color clouser with
1/30 eyes is an olive and white one. That fly was excellent Sunday. The Juniata has been great managed a 20 incher at dark on a
floating minnow in no water.
7/19/2009
The river is fishing fairly well,
maybe not the old #’s of the 90’s but decent fishing. Lots of nice fish and lots of different sizes of fish. If
you have not been out try your old spots. The fish have been in the good areas
of the river. I have been fishing from New Cumberland to Sunbury and there are
plenty of bass to keep you entertained. The Juniata
is fishing even better. Hot flies for me lately have been the golden craw, baby
bass (not the traditional one), all white, gizzard shad and olive and yellow.
Sunlight is playing a big part in fly selection. Sinking lines are the ticket
right now. The white flies are on at Liverpool and Halifax. 19 and ¼ was the biggest fish
last week.
10/16/2008
Running behind on my posts this
year, but the fishing has been very good. The river is very low right now, kayaks and pontoons are the best way to access it. If
the structure is right fish are bunching up. The water is crystal clear and
somedays they are spooky. The first 2 hours and the last 2 hours are
exceptional though. I had a good friend out at week or so ago and we had decent
fishing most of the day. We ended up boating over 40 fish and we got some nice
Walleyes. Hot colors have been the olive twist, baby bass, olive and white,
sculpin, baby pike and baby walleye. The olive twist has been a very hot fly
this fall. Fish are on the flats and near structure,
seen a lot of bass chasing minnows yesterday. White shenks tied smallmouth
style was good too. Last night I had over 20 fish in about an hour and half to
give you an idea of how the fishing is. The Juniata
is fishing very well too, I was there on Monday.
8/18/2008
Sorry I have not posted before
now. The river is giving up so nice fish a friend that was with me yesterday
caught a bunch over 15 inches with the biggest being 18 1/2 and close to 4lbs.
Hot colors have been the olive twist, golden minnow, albino minnow, and olive
sculpin clousers. Fish are on mid river structure, seen a lot of bass chasing
minnows yesterday. White shenks tied smallmouth style was good too. We caught
all ages of fish yesterday and they all were very healthy.
3/26/2008
Lots of Bass
being caught the last week or two but mostly on spinning tackle. River is very
high and fast. Brown and Orange hair jigs and Black and Blue have been great.
8/20/2007
The river fishing has been picking up. Fish seems to really have
congregated in the deeper holes and off to the sides of these areas. The fish
are moving into the shallows from these deeper areas during low light times.
The white flies are done and when they were here brought plenty of smallies to
the surface, especially on the flats. Starting to catch a reasonable # of
smallies each time out like 15 and 20 were the last 2 outings. Not big catch
#'s but reasonable. The size of the fish are
incredible the last two times out 7 fish over 15 inches and my first 20 incher
of the year. Hot flies have been all white # 4 clousers, chart green and yellow
#4 clousers, #4 Shenks White minnow tied Tim's way and #4 HHF has been real
good.
Successful
Patterns have been:
Clouser Deep
Minnows: All white, olive and white, Chart. Green and Yellow in size #2, #4 and

The river is
low and clear. Below 83 there is a lot of algae
floating in the water column, the water at Liverpool
does not have that. Some areas even
though they have plenty of fish, have been fishing very tough. Slow sinking
lines and fishing a clouser very quickly has been productive. Top water has
been really good in the mornings and evenings. They have been moving to the
points of ledges and riffle as darkness approaches. Some of the Susquehanna
tributaries are starting to fish well. We had a decent week overall. Skipping
bugs have been taking some nice fish.
Successful
Patterns have been:
Clouser Deep
Minnows: Blue Claw, Susquehanna Shiner, Crab, Baby Bass, Baby Walleye, Chart.
Green and Yellow in size #2, #4 and #6
Rusty Brown and
Dirty Yellow Swimming nymphs #8
Shenks white
minnow #4
Chart and White
#2 Skipping Bugs, Floating Minnows size #2 and #4

very tough. Slow sinking lines and fishing a clouser very quickly has been
productive. Top water has been decent all day and really good in the morning.
They still seem to be favoring the deeper water. Caught some
big boys the last couple times out. Some of the Susquehanna tributaries
are starting to fish well.

Fishing has
started to pick up over the last week fish are becoming more predictable on
where they are located. The fish are returning to their summer hangouts. They
still seem to be favoring the deeper water. Top water has been good from 6 till
8:30. Lots of young bass though, the big boys have not been hitting the fly
yet. Some of the Susquehanna tributaries are starting to fish well.
